Psalm 105 summary: what it means

Psalm 105 is Israel's history told as a reason to give thanks. The first seven verses are a call to praise: give thanks, sing, seek the LORD and remember his works. From verse 8 the psalm tells the story. God made a covenant with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, promising them the land of Canaan while they were few and moving from nation to nation. He protected them and warned kings not to touch his anointed ones.

The story continues with Joseph sold as a slave and raised to rule, Israel's growth in Egypt, the sending of Moses and Aaron, the plagues, the exodus, and the cloud, fire, quails, bread and water in the wilderness. Almost every event is credited to God. The psalm ends with the purpose of it all: that his people keep his laws.
